1960s: Social and economic change gave way to a freer sensibility that was preoccupied with youth and having fun. Curves were straightened and hemlines were shortened - with the iconic 'mini' emerging in the mid 60s. Responding to this style revolution, many designer names reached out to capitalize on what was seen as a new independent youth market with the birth of the 'boutique' which changed the way we bought our fashion, and introduced the consumption of cheap disposable clothing and accessories.
