Detail: Conceptual designer, Junya Watanabe takes a classic oversized vintage trench coat shape; constructing it from a gorgeous chestnut brown pleather material (synthetic, polyurethane) which is finished with a distressed (used and well worn) appearance. Designed for Comme des Garcons 1998. Exquisite quality and tailoring. Dolman sleeve construction. Netted vents to armpit. Kick vent to reverse. Fully lined in cotton padding. Pockets to hip. Hidden button closure. Half buttoned strap to sleeve cuff. Oversized construction allows various size fittings. Rare and collectable.
Junya Watanabe began his career as a pattern-maker and designer working alongside his mentor Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garcons. He quickly established himself as a talent who pushed the boundaries in conceptual art-fashion; using new techniques in pattern manipulation and innovative use of synthetic materials. Launching his own label in 1992, Junya Watanabe caused a sensation in 1993 when presenting his first collection in Paris. Today, his early works are highly collectable.
