Conceptual designer, Junya Watanabe reinvents a classic early 1960s cocoon dress sihouette.
Detail: This recent Junya Watanabe gold chain black wool jersey dress was an instant sell-out when he launched his 2009 winter collection. The sihouette is clearly inspired by the iconic early 1960s cacoon dress yet, reinterpreted with a chuncky gold link chain hand-stitched into the neckline. Short dolman sleeves. Unlined. Mint / unworn condition. Will work to various sizings due to slightly oversized construction. Definitely one of tomorrow's key collectable pieces!
Junya Watanabe began his career as a pattern-maker and designer working alongside his mentor Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garcons. He quickly established himself as a talent who pushed the boundaries in conceptual art-fashion; using new techniques in pattern manipulation and innovative use of synthetic materials. Launching his own label in 1992, Junya Watanabe caused a sensation in 1993 when presenting his first collection in Paris. Today, his early works are highly collectable.
