This darling top is typical of BIBA around the time of their first mail order catalogues. The dark prune (wine) colour is standard of Barbara Hulanicki’s anti-fashion designs. It’s an incredibly flattering cut and would hide any lumps or bumps while enhancing the waist and bust.
Detail: Art noveau pattern crocheted wrap top. Short, wide fluted sleeves gathered at the shoulder. Eye and hook closures at the waist and bust. Bound hem. Woven Biba label, indicating an early production.
Period: Mid-1968 to 1970
Colour: Prune (wine)
Sizing: Small. Bust: 32-34 (stretches and can be worn unhooked at the bust). Waist: 26. Shoulders: 14. Neck to waist: 12.5. Neck to hem: 20.
Fabric: Wool/ Wool blend
Care: Dry Clean
Styling tip: Wear it with a tight black pencil skirt or some high-waisted flared trousers. It needs chunky and strappy heels or wedges, and it would look great with a heavy Marion Vidal necklace or a SCHA panama hat.
