Detail: Rare vintage Issey Miyake 3D sculptural geometric pleated snow white blouse from the early 1990s. The design of the piece perfectly illustrates Miyake's innovative and technology driven approach to fashion. Reversed and inverted pleating produce a dramatic, sculptural effect. The overall aesthetic is reminiscent of exotic prehistoric insects. Sleeves are designed longer than the arm of the wearer. The shoulders on this piece are very oversized. Unlined. Due to construction, this piece offers flexible sizing. Collectable.

Issey Miyake and his design team have been experimenting with and refining their pleating technique since 1988. The groundbreaking method - by which pleats are applied after the fabric is cut and sewn - is a revolutionary departure from traditional process. The first examples were presented in the ISSEY MIYAKE Spring/Summer 1989 collection. Since that time, the process has been refined and expanded to include basic items such as t-shirts.
